Ingredients:
- 450 g of extra virgin olive oil
- 50 g of coconut oil
- 250 g of distilled water
- 60 g of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide)
- 10-15 drops of essential oil of your choice (lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, etc.)
- Optional: 1 teaspoon of honey or ground oats for an extra moisturizing or exfoliating touch
Instructions:
Prepare the ingredients:
- Be sure to use gloves and protective goggles, as caustic soda is corrosive.
- Weigh the ingredients and have them ready to use.
Dissolve the caustic soda in water:
- Add the distilled water to the Thermomix bowl.
- With the machine at speed 1, set to 37°C for 2 minutes.
- Slowly pour the caustic soda into the water while the Thermomix continues to stir (carefully, to avoid splashes). Maintain speed 1 until the soda is completely dissolved. Let cool to room temperature.
Mix the oils:
- Add the olive oil and coconut oil to the Thermomix bowl.
- Set to 37°C, speed 1, for 4 minutes to integrate the oils well.
Combine the soda with the oils:
- With the machine at speed 3, slowly pour the mixture of water and caustic soda into the bowl, making sure everything is well mixed.
- Increase to speed 4 and mix for 5-7 minutes, until the mixture reaches a "trace" texture (similar to thick cream).
Add the optional ingredients:
- If you wish to add essential oils, honey, or oats, this is the moment. Mix for 1 minute at speed 3.
Pour into molds:
- Pour the mixture into silicone molds or any other container you prefer to shape the soap.
- Let it rest for 24-48 hours until it hardens.
Curing:
- Unmold the soap and let it dry in a ventilated place for 4-6 weeks. This is the time needed for the soap to cure completely and be safe to use.
Ready! Now you have a natural and gentle soap for skin care, made in your Thermomix.
